Why do people care about unimportant issues like Gay marriage, Abortion, and "Global Warming"(rolling eyes)?

Can anyone explain why some people are so fixated on these manufactured issues? In general, why are people so gullible, and get worked up over "issues" like these? We should be focused on the Economy, less taxes, less government regulation.
