Information needed on dachshund?? I have not owned a puppy for many years.?

I just got an 8 week pup d'hound. I have never owned purebreed,I had a mix beagle/d'hound for 15 yrs. The breeder was a vet tech and wormed all pups but mine had fleas.I bathed her and bought advantage for pups on her. But I don't know other traits they are prone to beside blindness? She is playful & sleeps alot.I dont want to crate her as i am f/t mom.i gave her lots of toys she is too little for alot of exersize yet. How do i stop the whining?? All help will be greatly appreciated!! help on pups & this breed.
