Guitar help! I dont know how to change strings off of a tremolo?

Ok i just got a fender strat hss, and it has a vintage stlye tremolo. One of the strings broke, but its still attached at the tremolo end. how do you get the string off of the tremolo? ive tried pulling it, but it doesnt come out and im afraid to pull harder for fear of breaking something. please help 10 points! thanx
